Howard’s in Stokesley won’t be serving traditional Christmas dinner this year nor will it be offering special Christmas menus.

 

The family-run restaurant is breaking with tradition and will instead be offering customers a Christmas-food-free dining experience over the festive period.

 

As an antithesis to the majority of restaurants and bars, the nationally-acclaimed restaurant won’t be offering set Christmas or New Years Eve menus.

 

Instead, customers can choose from the regular a la carte menu or the seasonal Winter Market Menu which offers two courses for £12.95 or three for £16.95.

 

Manager, Peter Holligon, spoke to a wide range of customers over the last few months with the majority revealing that they didn’t want Christmas menus.

 

As a result head chef, Andrew Russell, has put together menus to reflect seasonal, locally-available produce. Dishes include smoked salmon and dill mousse, crab rosti, locally-landed fish pie, 21 days matured rump steak, rack of lamb with black pudding mash, belly pork bites and oven roast salmon, as well as a dedicated homemade burger and pizza menu and a range of desserts.

 

Howard’s is recognised as one of the best places to eat on Teesside and in North Yorkshire by Harden’s UK Restaurant Guide and has been run by the Howard family, from Great Ayton, since 2008.

 

Speaking about their Christmas plans, Peter Holligon, said: “It is fair to say that having spoken to customers, many were not keen on festive menus. So we’ve decided to provide a little oasis from the multitude of festive feasts on offer. Of course, we’ll be full of Christmas spirit- and we might even add turkey to the specials’ board in the run up to Christmas itself- but on the whole it will be business as usual!”
