Funding from Teesside University- apply now

Ham Coun

Teesside University has received confirmation that it has secured funding to offer 150 fully paid-for graduate placements for businesses across our region.

This scheme is particularly useful for SMEs and micro businesses that may have a specific project to implement but lack the resource to do so or may not necessarily have a requirement for a full time member of staff long term.

The internship programme was created to provide opportunities for new graduates to gain practical experience appropriate to the level of the skills they have developed on their degree programmes.

Employers are asked to allocate the graduate an individual project or to provide them with a clear opportunity to contribute to an existing project so that both the graduate and the organisation gain the maximum benefit from the programme.

The graduates’ responsibilities should be designed to ensure that the project is achievable within the twelve-week time frame and has measurable outcomes so that their contribution to the company can be clearly evaluated.

Skills which the graduates will be encouraged to display during their placement could include task management, team building, communication skills, developing business skills, social skills and client responsiveness.

Integrated throughout the internship is a development programme delivered by, and at, Teesside University. Elements of this include:

  • Induction
  • Career management workshop – developing a CV, job application and interview techniques
  • Employability skills development sessions- digital literacy, presentation skills
  • Programme evaluation

Typically, the development programme occupies one day per fortnight throughout the internship.
